Hello! And welcome to my blog! My name is Kim and I have kind of become a little nutty about health and fitness these days. I got to that point in my life where I was tired of feeling like rubbish most days, I didn't have the energy to keep up with my kids, I hurt everywhere, and then a doctor diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and that was the end of it. After that I took a good hard look at my family history and all the beautiful (scary is more like it) genes that I was carrying and the path I was headed down and realized I was on a sure course to heart disease, cancers, high blood pressure, all that fun stuff. It's all there in my family history. And it really scared me.
But I was absolutely clueless where to even begin looking for ways to get myself and my family to a healthy place. I never really felt like I had learned how to eat healthy and so didn't really know where to begin. I knew about several diets there were floating around out there but I wanted something that was going to stick long term and not just be a quick fix. So I started talking with a friend of mine and she is the one who set me on my current course. (Thank you!!) She sat down with me one day and shared with me whole bunch of recipes and workout ideas and introduced me to a "vegan" lifestyle, which was something I had never EVER considered. She suggested I read the book, "The China Study" which I did and have never looked back.
I started eating plant strong the week of Thanksgiving, November 2010 and brought my family right along with me. My husband has been on board with me every step of the way and even he is reaping the benefits. Checkout how far we've come!
I am now an avid follower of T. Colin Campbell (the author of The China Study and new book Whole), Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn (Forks Over Knives, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease), Rip Esseslstyn (Engine 2 Diet), Jeff Novick, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Lindsay S. Nixon (Happy Herbivore), and several others. (You can follow any of these people on Facebook, Instagram, and twitter, that's what I do. You can find a wealth of information through their postings.)
It's been quite a journey and I am excited to share my lessons I've learned with you. Everything I have learned and will be sharing with you on this blog is purely through my own study and readings. I have no formal education in this background and I am not a medical professional of any kind. That being said, I hope you'll come back and read often as there is a lot of lessons that hopefully can help you in your life as well.
